Greek owner Leon Shipping & Trading has made a move in the sale-and-purchase (S&P) market by snapping up a nine-year-old medium-range (MR) tanker from Chemikalien Seetransport of Germany.

The 40,000-dwt Gandhi (built 2008) has changed hands for $15.8m and has been renamed Leon Hermes. The price is in line with expectations.

In December, Leon sold the Fukuoka-built, 9,100-dwt tanker Leon Dias (built 2003) to Eastern Tanker of South Korea for $8.75m.

The Leon Hermes will be the biggest vessel in the company’s fleet.

Its two other tankers are the 20,000-dwt tanker Leon Poseidon (built 2009) and 17,600-dwt Leon Hero (built 2008).

The latter was bought at auction as Leo Star for $12.6m in May 2013 and is now likely to be worth $11m.

The Leon Poseidon was purchased at auction as Royal Queen for $19.8m in October 2011 and is now expected to be worth $12m.
