Passengers were evacuated from a Norwegian Cruise Lines ship Friday after a passenger failed to scan a key card while boarding.

The Miami cruiseship owner said Miami police and US Customs and Border Protection are carrying out a security sweep on the 2,000-berth Norwegian Sky (built 1999) at PortMiami.

“In an abundance of caution, the ship is undergoing a secondary security sweep,” the company said in a statement provided to TradeWinds. “Once the vessel has been cleared, all remaining guests will embark the ship.”

The incident took place at about 1230 local time when a passenger that cleared a pier-side security checkpoint then boarded without the required key card swipe.

The ship is expected to arrive in the Bahamas as scheduled tomorrow morning.
