September bunker fuel sales fell by 10.3% compared to August to 3.85mt. However, last month’s figure was up 9.3% year-on-year.

The month-on-month drop follows the all-time monthly high of 4.29mt seen in August, the MPA data showed.

September sales volume for the high sulfur grades included 2.9mt of 380 CST bunker fuel, 736,800mt of 500 CST bunker fuel, and 49,600mt of 180 CST bunker fuel.

The bunkering industry in Singapore is a lucrative business with more than 65,000 bunkering operations taking place every year.

Its bunker industry is a major revenue earner with the sector generating income of around SGD20bn ($14.3bn) a year.

As at 5 August 2015, MPA listed a total of 59 licensed, or accredited, bunker suppliers in the port of Singapore.

Singapore also recorded a fall in container throughput in September, which was down 13.5% to 2.43mteu versus the year ago figure.

For the year-to-date Singapore has seen container throughput of 23.5m teu, which marks a year-on-year decrease of 6.5%
