In celebration of its 170th anniversary, APL is to provide free shipping to disaster relief agency Americares for three years.
In doing so, the liner has committed itself to transporting the equivalent of 170 teu of medical supplies for the global health organisation until the end of 2021.
Medical supplies
The CMA CGM subsidiary will deliver medical supplies from the US to Bangladesh, Cambodia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Philippines.
APL chief executive Nicolas Sartini said the gifting of free shipments made its anniversary “more meaningful”.
Since 2012, APL has transported more than $300m worth of donated medicine and medical supplies to seven countries.
“Our partnership with APL has saved Americares hundreds of thousands of dollars, allowing us to develop more resources to health programmes,” Americares president and chief executive Michael Nyenhuis said.
