Chinese vice president Wang Qishan has paid a visit to the port of Hamburg, an important hub for the country's containerships.
HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort (CTT) welcomed the VIP as part of a one-day tour.
Wang was greeted by the chairwoman of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik (HHLA), Angela Titzrath, and Hamburg’s First Mayor, Peter Tschentscher, as well as representatives of China's Cosco.
He spoke with the crew of the 19,150-teu Cosco Shipping Aries (built 2018).
HHLA said: "The visit of the Chinese vice president emphasises the great significance of the People’s Republic of China to Hamburg as a port and commercial city."
It has been doing business with Chinese companies such as Cosco for more than 35 years.
The first cargoship from China arrived there in 1982.
