Four crew have been kidnapped from a Contships container vessel off Cameroon.

The Nikolas D Pateras-led company confirmed to TradeWinds the incident involving the 1,100-teu Contship Oak (built 2007).

A spokesperson said the shipowner could not give further details, other than that the rest of the crew is safe and it is working to free the seafarers with its specialist team.

AIS data showed the vessel at anchor in Douala in Tuesday morning.

The ship is believed to have come under attack on 30 March at anchorage off the port.

Last month five crew were kidnapped from an unnamed offshore support vessel off Nigeria following an attack by armed pirates.

Pirates armed with machine guns in two speed boats were said to have approached the ship around 32 miles southeast of Brass.

The OSV’s captain was reported to have immediately notified the naval escort security boat which moved to engage the attackers.
