The combined Global Ship Lease-Poseidon Containers has inked additional charters with CMA CGM.
The 6,882-teu UASC Bubiyan and UASC Yas (both built 2015) will be leased to the French company for five years at $25,910 per day each starting in the second quarter of 2019.
“These new long-term charters with CMA CGM demonstrate the clear market demand for the modern, high-specification, eco, wide-beam containerships acquired through our recent strategic combination with Poseidon Containers," Global Ship Lease chief executive Ian Webber said in a statement.
He noted the merger with George Youroukos-controlled Poseidon, completed last month despite upset bondholders, has upped incremental contracted revenue by $280m and incremental EBITDA by $200m.
The latest deals up the number of Global Ship Lease-Poseidon Containers ships chartered to CMA CGM in the last month to nine.
On 9 November, Global Ship Lease announced long-term charters for the 6,927-teu Mary, Kristina, Katherine and Alexandra (all built 2013).
On 13 November, the 2,207-teu GSL Keta (built 2003) began a seven to 10 month charter with GMA CGM subsidiary ANL while exercising extensions for the 2,207-teu Marie Delmas and Kumasi (both built 2002).
All seven of those ships were on improved charter rates, the companies said.
