New York-listed Global Ship Lease (GSL) has fixed a boxship out on a short-term deal at a better rate.

It said the 2,207-teu GSL Keta (built 2003) has been taken by OOCL for between 50 and 90 days.

The rate is $8,700 per day. The ship was previously contracted to ANL at $8,450 per day.

CEO Ian Webber said: “We are pleased to have signed this charter at an improved rate with a top-tier counterparty in OOCL.

"With strong fundamentals driving continuing improvements across the ship sizes that make up our fleet of high-quality, mid-sized and smaller containerships, Global Ship Lease is in an excellent position to realize additional benefits for our shareholders.”

GSL has one other ship chartered to OOCL, plus two more to OOCL's parent Cosco.
