Hapag-Lloyd's chief financial officer Nicolas Burr is to leave the company next year to oversee new projects in South America.

Burr will take over new projects in Chile after he leaves the company on 29 February 2020, according to a release from the Hamburg-based boxship giant.

"The supervisory board sincerely likes to thank Nicolas Burr for his commitment over the past years," said Michael Behrendt, chairman of Hapag-Lloyd's supervisory board.

"His contribution was very valuable for the development of Hapag-Lloyd, particularly with regards to the last two mergers and the initial public offering in 2015."

The company said Burr's successor would be announced "in due course".

Burr was appointed to the executive position in March 2015 and is a member of Hapag-Lloyd's executive board.
