German boxship owner Reederei Jens & Waller has taken its fleet into double figures with the purchase of another feeder vessel.
The Drochtersen-based company has emerged as the buyer of the 1,118-teu Max Centaur (built 2007), its seventh feeder container vessel in two years, managing director Ulf Jens has confirmed.
The vessel, renamed Jette, has reportedly been purchased from Vroon-controlled BalticMax Holding Co for $5.7m, with a charter to Maersk Line.
Feeder demand
The transaction is among recent deals that reflect continued interest in older CV1100 feeder containership designs.
They include the prospective sale of another CSC Jinling Shipyard-built feedership, the 1,100-teu BC Hamburg (built 2006).
The Leonhardt & Blumberg (L&B)-controlled vessel has been reported sold to Germany-based buyers for less than $5m. But L&B managing director Torben Kolln said no deal had yet been concluded, although he confirmed the vessel is for sale.
European brokers report the BC Hamburg as being sold with a long-term charter to Mediterranean Shipping Co, which took the vessel for 12 months in September last year at $6,250 per day.
Jens & Waller controls a fleet of 10 containerships, having bought seven secondhand vessels since late 2016.
Alphaliner lists these as including the 1,118-teu Maren (ex-Cove Island, built 2002) and Geeske (ex-Shippan Island, built 2005), 956-teu Adilia I (ex-ER Auckland) and Elke (ex-ER Wellington, both built 2005), 901-teu Steen (ex-Conmar Island, built 2008), and 957-teu Anne (ex-Tinghir, built 2007).
