Ocean Network Express (ONE) has reported some of its highest utilisation levels on its sailings out of Asia during October.

The Japanese liner giant achieved 97% utlisation on eastbound sailings between Asia and the US and 95% on westbound trips from Asia to Europe last month.

These latest figures mark dramatic improvements on those seen at the start of ONE’s operations in April when utilisation levels were just 70% and 58% respectively.

During the first quarter average utilisation was 73% on both the routes between Asia and the US and Asia and Europe rising to 90% in the second quarter.

ONE has also reported a sizeable increase in liftings since the start of operations on both its Asian services to the US and Europe.

Eastbound volumes out of Asia to the US have consistently been over 250,000-teu per month since July, a far cry from the 94,000-teu seen in April.

Similarly, westbound volumes out of Asia to Europe have ramped up to average over 15,000-teu per month since the start of the summer.

However, the Singapore-headquartered company is still struggling to see any significant growth in backhaul cargoes for both trades.
