PIL founder YC Chang has been revealed as the world's oldest billionaire at the ripe old age of 100.
Yahoo News said the title passed to the Singapore boxship pioneer when David Rockefeller, the last surviving grandson of oil tycoon John D Rockefeller, died in 2017 at the age of 101.
Chang was a mere stripling of 98 at the time.
In April, he retired from the Singapore container line after more than 50 years.
The veteran chairman handed over the reins to his son SS Teo, the current managing director and one of his 14 children.
Born in 1918, Chang started his shipping career in Singapore in 1949, working for another company for 18 years before striking out on his own.
The Chinese immigrant graduated from Xiamen Datung College in China.
He has seldom spoken to the media, but said in one TV interview: “I’m hard-working, I’m very honest with everyone.
“Whatever I promise, I always fulfil my promise. That is my principle.”
He’s worth $1.9bn, according to Forbes, but only ranks at number 1,284 on the worldwide list of the super-rich.
