Diana Shipping has secured period charters for more than a year that will see the New York-listed owner earn less from two bulkers.

But the deals, which will make $15m for the New York-listed shipowner, also show period rates have remained stable since the last similar transactions.

Semiramis Paliou-led Diana has extended a fixture for the 98,700-dwt panamax Polymnia (built 2012) with diversified operator CLdN Cobelfret for at least 15 months at $10,000 per day for the first month and then $15,000 per day for the rest of the charter.

Cobelfret, which began the fixture on Friday and may employ the ship for as long as 17 months, previously had the vessel on an 11-month charter at $24,750 per day from Diana, according to the shipowner’s website.

Diana last chartered out a post-panamax for a comparable period when it chartered the 98,700-dwt Amphitrite (built 2012) to Cobelfret for 15 months starting in November at $14,250 per day, according to Baltic Exchange data.

The average one-year time charter rate for an 82,000-dwt kamsarmax was $15,500 per day as of Friday, down from $16,450 per day on 9 November. according to Clarksons data.

Diana has also chartered the 206,000-dwt newcastlemax Los Angeles (built 2012) for at least 16 months at $17,700 per day to Japan’s NYK Line.

The Japanese shipping giant began the charter on Friday and may employ the vessel for up to 19 months.

Diana previously had the ship on charter to Koch Shipping for a year at $26,250 per day.

The last comparable charter of a newcastlemax bulker saw China Cosco Shipping hired SAMC’s 206,000-dwt SAMC Mg (built 2006) for a year to 14 months at nearly $16,000 per day. The trip started on 26 December after the ship was loaded.

The average one-year time rate for a 180,000-dwt capesize earned $17,000 per day on Friday, up from about $14,600 per day on 9 December, Clarksons data showed.
