Greece's M/Maritime has added a Japan-built kamsarmax bulker to its fleet, according to brokers' reports.
The Athens-based owner has purchased the 81,100-dwt Puppis Ocean (built 2014) from Mitsubishi Corp's Singapore subsidiary Diamond Star Shipping for a reported $24m.
VesselsValue.com estimates the ship's current market value to be around $22.05m.
Barely two years old, M/Maritime has grown its managed fleet from scratch to nine vessels, including this new acquisition.
Puppis Ocean will become the largest vessel in the fleet by deadweight tonnage, alongside M/Maritime's existing stable of ultramax and handysize bulk carriers.
Most of the fleet is owned by the company; other vessels are owned by Japanese shipowners and fully managed by M/Maritime.
Earlier this month the company took over management of Electra.Gr, the first of three 37,000-dwt newbuildings that will be operated by the company when they are delivered from Saiki Heavy Industries at Onomichi Dockyard, Japan.
The vessel itself is owned by Japanese shipowner Hisafuku Kisen KK.
"We are looking forward to welcoming our second Saiki-built handysize vessel by the end of April 2019," the company said on its website.
TradeWinds has contacted M/Maritime for confirmation.
