An AL Group-owned container ship slammed into a berth in Taiwan with no injuries reported.

Video posted to social media shows the 1,100-teu Asiatic Sun (built 2008) slamming into the shoreside facility, its bow turning down.

AL Group said in a statement to TradeWinds that the collision happened at 7:36 am local time (2336 GMT) on 26 December.

"None of the vessel's crew members was injured," the company said. "No stevedore or other employee of the port of Taichung was injured. There was no pollution caused.

"The master immediately informed the company about the collision. The forecastle deck and bow are damaged. The underwater parts were found undamaged.

AL Group said the ship was finishing a voyage from Keelung when the crash happened.

"The cargo has been fully discharged in the meantime and the vessel has no cargo on board," it said.

The company said the reason for the collision is still under investigation and that the Asiatic Sun's classification society, the American Bureau of Shipping, its insurers and the Taichung Port Authority inspected the ship.

AL Group said it is looking for a repair yard to fix the unspecified damages.

The Asiatic Sun is flagged in Singapore and insured by the Swedish Club.

Shipping databases show its registered owner is Asiatic Sun Shipping, which shares a Singapore address with its commercial manager, Asiatic Lloyd Shipping.
