A general cargoship has been damaged after being hit by a sister vessel in Russia.

The accident took place in the port of Taganrog, Russia, on 7 July.

Video footage released by Marine Pilot shows Volga Shipping's 5,400-dwt SV Knyaz Vladimir (built 2003) ploughing into the port side of the 5,500-dwt Rusich-6 (built 2005) with an audible crash.

Two tugs were in attendance at the time.

The RIA Novosti news agency cited the press service of the Moscow Interregional Investigation Department for Transport (MIIDT) as saying there were no casualties, while the damage to the Rusich-6 was being established.

Investigators of the Rostov Transport Investigation Department have been at the scene, and have interviewed the masters of both ships, as well as Volga Shipping.

Investigation continues

The MIIDT said that based on the results of the probe, "a procedural decision" will be taken, but no further details were given.

Cargoship owner Volga Shipping is based in Nizhny Novgorod.

The Rusich-6 has no port state detentions on its record since 2017.

The SV Kynaz Vladimir has no recorded detentions. However, in January this year, an inspection in Turkey found four deficiencies.

These related to lifeboats, a fire alarm and rescue boats.

Both ships are insured by the UK's Standard Club.
