AP Moller-Maersk is beefing up its logistics focus by merging APM Terminals Inland Services into Maersk Logistics & Services.
The Danish giant is transitioning away from being a conglomerate to becoming an integrated transport and logistics specialist.
The business combination will be effective from 1 August and will provide customers with "seamless access to a wider range of logistics and services offerings", Maersk said in a release on Thursday.
AMP Terminals Inland Services' network of inland terminals around the globe comprises 36 business units with over 100 locations.
“APM Terminals can fully focus on becoming a world-class port operator, while Maersk, with the integration of Inland Services, will continue to focus on ocean transportation as well as logistics and services product development and delivery,” said Soren Toft, AP Moller-Maersk's executive vice-president and chief operating officer.
Meanwhile, APM Terminals is collaborating with Maersk to come up with solutions for customers looking for an end-to-end service.
Morten Engelstoft, chief executive of APM Terminals, said the collaboration would "reduce complexity and eliminate service overlaps, so that both brands can focus on their core strengths and provide greater value and a better experience to customers".
AP Moller-Maersk's strategy away from being a diversified group hasn't all been plain sailing, however.
In a major shift seen in March, Maersk aborted its plans to sell off Maersk Supply Service, its last remaining energy business, having sold off its oil and gas and product tanker fleets and spun off its drilling business.
