Miami-based cruise ship company SunStone Ships has appointed Christian Lund as its new president.

Lund replaces Ulrik Hegelund, who has returned to Denmark for family reasons, according to a statement released by the company on Monday.

Lund is a 14-year veteran at the company, starting his career there when it was still known as International Shipping Partners. He has worked for the company's former ship management subsidiaries FleetPro and Cruise Management International (CMI).

In his new role, Lund will be responsible for group strategy and long-term planning.

The company said he will be “instrumental in the further development of our shipboard management strategy, focused on maximising the skills, involvement, and empowerment of our onboard teams to ensure the best possible expedition fleet”.

Hegelund continues in a senior executive role at the company despite his return to Denmark. He has been appointed chief financial officer of SunStone Maritime, taking on the overall responsibility for the group’s accounting, budgeting, cash flow, reporting, legal, and IT matters.

SunStone Ships is the largest tonnage provider to the expedition cruise sector with a fleet of 12 expedition cruise ships in operation, and one more under construction at China Merchants Heavy Industries’ Jiangsu yard.

Sunstone's deal to sell CMI to Hong Kong-based ship management giant Anglo-Eastern was concluded in December 2022.

According to S&P Global’s International Ships Register, CMI provides technical and/or hotel management services to 17 vessels that run the gamut from the majority of SunStone Ships’ expedition cruise ship fleet to more conventional cruise ships.
