Hong Kong headquartered Fleet Management has planted a third flag in Europe with a new subsidiary in the Netherlands.

It has taken over NAESS Ship Management in Amsterdam, adding to existing European arms in London and Cyprus.

Kishore Rajvanshy, managing director of Fleet Management, says an initial 13 ships will be run out of the Amsterdam office.

Fleet believes the takeover will allow it to better serve both existing and potential clients, a spokesperson says.

"Fleet has 480 plus ships under full technical management with 20 plus ships traversing North European waters at any time. Furthermore, 40% of our customers are located in Europe," they added.

"Against this backdrop, the Diemen office is intended to provide better local support to ships and owners alike - including faster response time to operational requirements of ships plying in these waters and consequent cost savings."

NAESS Ship Management was set up in 1973 and has managed gas carriers, bulkers, tankers, offshore support vessels and containerships.

Fleet Management is among the world’s largest third-party shipmanagers. It has over 20,000 qualified seafarers.
