A new pool with 26 multipurpose (MPP) and mini-bulkers has been formed by Peter Dohle Schiffahrts (PDS) and NovaAlgoma Short Sea Carriers (NASC).
The newly formed DNA Shipping will begin operations in October and stakes a claim to being the world’s largest mini-grabber pool.
Twelve vessels will be contributed by NASC, which will manage the mini-bulkers from its office in Lugano, Switzerland.
Another 14 will be provided by PDS, which will manage the multipurpose vessels from its office in Hamburg.
The aim of the venture was to pursue consolidation in the MPP and mini-grabber dry bulk market. It will focus on ships of between 13,500-dwt to 15,000-dwt.
Ken Bloch Soerensen, executive chairman of NASC, described the agreement as “an exciting first step in bringing consolidation to the fragmented MPP and mini-bulker markets".
He described the partnership was “a strong foundation for growth.”
“We share a common vision of the future of this business and we bring combined resources to bear that lead us to be optimistic about our chances of success,” added PDS chief executive Jochen Dohle.
Cargoes are expected to be contributed from offices in Rotterdam, Miami, Houston, and Dubai.
The pool will invite other owners to join the DNA pool for commercial management of vessels.
NASC is a joint venture between Algoma Central Corporation of Canada and Nova Marine Holdings of Switzerland.
It also runs the NovaAlgoma Cement Carriers (NACC) pool.
