Scorpio Bulkers has continued a strategy of securing short period deals for a portion of its fleet with one of its kamsarmax bulkers fixed to Bunge.
The 81,200-dwt SBI Mazurka (built 2017) has been locked in for a period of seven to nine months at $16,500 per day, brokers report.
New York-listed Scorpio Bulkers is predominantly a spot player. However, it has typically had between five and 10 of its vessels on charters of a similar length during the past couple of years.
While Scorpio Bulkers has a relatively conservative read of the recovering dry cargo market, it is not believed to be seeking longer-term time charters.
The shipowner has a fleet of 56 bulkers on the water.
Angelakos Hellas is also reported to have found period work for one of its kamsarmaxes.
Ausca has hired the 81,000-dwt Graecia Nautica (built 2015) for five to eight months at $15,500 per day, the Baltic Exchange reports.
