A chemical and products tanker controlled by Hanaro Shipping has fetched a price above estimates in a second-hand sale.
Brokers report that the South Korean shipowner's 17,500-dwt Sea Ruby (built 2010) went for $18.3m in the sale to an undisclosed buyer.
Seasure Shipbrokers valuation platform VesselsValue had valued the six-year-old tanker at less than $14.1m.
MarineLine-coated
Brokers point out that the ship has MarineLine polymer coating.
Hanaro appears to have scored a gain in the sale.
TradeWinds reported in 2013 that the low-profile owner bought the Sea Ruby and sistership Sea Crystal for $17m each from the Korea Development Bank.
South Korea-built
The ship was built at Samho Tongyoung in South Korea.
Among similar sales this week, TradeWinds reported in its print edition that the Asakawa-built, 12,900-dwt stainless-steel tanker Global Triton (built 2006) has been sold domestically for $12m.
The 11,000-dwt products/chemical tanker Zhong Da You 56 (built 2010) has been sold within China for $10.5m, according to sources.
