Seacor Holdings has hired a key executive at rival GulfMark Offshore to take its top legal job.

Bill Long will take the roles of executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary at the New York-listed shipowner.

He had held a similar string of titles at GulfMark, a Houston offshore vessel owner, where he worked for just a year, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Long has more than 20 years of experience in legal roles at public maritime-linked companies, having also spent 17 years at Diamond Offshore Drilling. He started at the drilling contractor as corporate counsel in 1997, before rising to general counsel in the late 1990s.

He has a juris doctorate degree, as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration, from the University of Houston.

“He brings extensive business and legal experience and strengthens our management group,” said Seacor chief executive Charles Fabrikant.
