GC Rieber Shipping has found employment for a 3D seismic vessel, which will work for a subsidiary of Sovcomflot.

The Oslo-listed company has entered into a time charter agreement with SCF Geo for the 4,200-dwt Polar Empress (built 2015).

Rieber’s ship will provide seismic acquisition and seismic quality control services for about two months in the Kara Sea.

Irene Waage Basili, chief executive of Rieber, said: “We have had long lasting discussions with Sovcomflot related to this contract and we are very pleased to be able to conclude in time for this season’s work.

“Our vessel’s unique capabilities are tailor made for operating in these types of areas and we are glad to see that our clients value our assets and our ability to adapt our work scope to specific need.”

Rieber has said in its previous financial reports that the seismic vessel market was in a dire condition and long-term contracts tough to find.

SCF Geo is part of 2012-founded SCF Arctic, a company involved in servicing Russian shelf projects.
