Marine biofuel supplier GoodFuels has bunkered an NYK capesize bulker in the first operation managed by its recently established Singapore outpost.

The Dutch company supplied a combination of very low sulphur fuel oil and biofuel to the 179,000-dwt Frontier Explorer (built 2010).

The vessel is trading between Australia and India.

It was the first bunkering operation since GoodFuels opened its office in Singapore in May this year when it signed a cooperation deal with Japanese trading house Itochu Corporation.

Itochu was responsible for logistics, blending and distribution of the biofuel blend to the Frontier Explorer.

GoodFuels worked closely with NYK’s technical and commercial team and handled the sourcing, technical expertise and sales.

Goodfuels said the deal marked a further evolution of its business relationship with NYK Line which has set the goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Jing Xieng Han, general manager of GoodFuels Asia Pacific, said: “It is important to underline just how significant this first refuelling with NYK is for GoodFuels presence in Asia. Just a few months after commencing operations in Singapore, and hot on the heels of our recent agreement with Itochu, we are proving to the market that we are ready to supply our sustainable biofuels solutions to meet growing demand in the region.”

Yusuke Niizuma, manager of global mineral resources at NYK said: “In the process of achieving the long-term target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, continuously increasing biofuel usage within the group’s fleet is one of our ESG activities.”
