Vessel vetting organisation RightShip is partnering a Silicon Valley-based innovation accelerator as it moves to boost its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) role with the maritime industry.

RightShip said it will collaborate with global innovation platform Plug and Play to access suitable emerging maritime-focused technology start-ups which complement its focus on sustainability.

Plug and Play is an investor in start-ups and accelerator partner for major companies with 15 years of experience.

RightShip said it will collaborate with identified start-ups to scale their solutions and enhance their reach within the maritime industry, with the aim of advancing its vision of zero harm in the sector.

Chief strategy officer at RightShip, Tarun Mehrotra said the collaboration “enables and accelerates our ability to understand the landscape of emerging technology solutions around key ESG themes, with a view to starting partnerships or co-creating and scaling solutions”.

Specific themes it expects to focus on will include crew welfare, emissions monitoring and provenance transparency he added.

Jupe Tan, managing partner of Plug and Play APAC region added that its goal is to provide line-of-sight into innovative start-ups that are shaping the future of the maritime industry as well as supporting the sustainability and social responsibility practices on shore and at sea.

In April, Rights Ship announced a partnership with software, data, and technology provider for maritime and commodities markets Shipfix Technologies.
