Stuart Rivers has stepped down as chief executive of maritime charity the Sailors' Society after six years in the post, TradeWinds has learned.

The charity confirmed to TradeWinds that Rivers resigned on 7 May but gave no reason for his departure.

"Sandra Welch, who has been deputy CEO, will assume for the time being the role of acting CEO," a spokesperson for the charity said.

Rivers' biography has been removed from the charity's website and his LinkedIn profile shows he left the organisation this month.

He told TradeWinds he is currently "enjoying the sunshine in France".

Alastair Fischbacher, chairman of the Sailors' Society’s board of trustees, said the charity was sorry to be losing Rivers.

“He has taken the Society into new and challenging areas while maintaining the core support to our beneficiaries," Fischbacher said.

"Stuart’s knowledge and experience in digital development has been key in the success of our ShipVisitor platform and the Wellness at Sea programme; his ability to identify creative solutions and provide strategic direction has been valued."
