Turkish shipowner Arkas Holding has clinched an $800m refinancing package in a deal with banks.

The company said the facility was arranged by lender Yapi Kredi.

The loan matures over five years with a 12-month grace period.

The company said it is taking measures to strengthen its balance sheet and reduce financial costs in a time of high interest rates.

Arkas has 60 boxships and bunker tankers, plus two container units on order in China.

Chaired by Lucien Arkas, the group also has interests in port operations and logistics, as well as the car, airline, construction and tourism sectors.

The syndicate also includes HSBC, Vakifbank, Ziraat Bank, Garanti Bank, Sekerbank, TSKB, Denizbank, Alternatifbank, Akbank, Is Bank, Burgan Bank, Fibabanka, Halkbank, Odea Bank, Pasha Bank, Aktif Yatirim Bank and Turkland Bank.
