BW LPG’s search for a new finance chief lasted all but a week.

The Oslo-listed, Singapore-based VLGC specialist announced on Thursday that Samantha Xu would take over the chief financial officer position vacated by Elaine Ong on 26 May.

“We are delighted to welcome Samantha onboard and look forward to benefitting from her strong financial management and strategic leadership skills,” BW LPG chief executive Anders Onarheim said in a statement.

“Samantha will help drive our growth agenda and build on decades of leadership and innovation in LPG shipping.”

The company said Xu would join from 1 September.

She has more than 20 years of international finance experience in the shipping and energy space, having worked in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.

She last worked as director of finance and control for Dutch tank storage provider Vopak in its Asia and Middle East division.

Xu has also worked for AP Moller-Maersk and J Lauritzen Singapore and has degrees from INSEAD.

Ong’s resignation last week was a sudden one and saw her depart to pursue other interests.

In her place, BW LPG elevated the head of corporate development and investor relations Iver Baatvik to the chief financial officer role on an interim basis.

She had worked for the company for nearly 12 years, joining in November 2011, roughly eight of which were spent in the C-suite.

Ong joined after having worked for Teekay Shipping in the Asia-Pacific region.

Her exit followed Pontus Berg’s departure in January.

Berg had served as BW LPG’s executive vice president of technical and operations.

He later resurfaced at Purus Marine as the company’s chief operating officer.
