US-listed Excelerate Energy has added a former US ambassador with recent experience in Asia to its staff line-up as it moves to further its growth plans in the region.
The company said on Monday that Peter Haas will join the company as a strategic adviser in October, working out of the company’s Washington DC office.
Ambassador Haas retired from the US Foreign Service on 27 September after 33 years of government service, Excelerate said.
Haas has most recently served as the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, where Excelerate already has two working floating storage and regasification units — the 138,000-cbm FSRU Summit LNG (built 2006), which has recently returned to work after being damaged during a cyclone, and the similar-size Excellence (built 2005).
Excelerate has also signed a long-term contract to buy 850,000 tonnes per annum to 1 mpta of LNG from QatarEnergy on a delivered ex-ship basis in Bangladesh for 15 years from January 2026 and is pursuing its Pyra LNG project in the country.
Haas was also posted to US embassies in London, Rabat, Berlin and Port-au-Prince and has served as acting assistant secretary of state for economic and business affairs, consul general in Mumbai, India, and deputy permanent representative to the OECD.
Excelerate president and chief executive Steven Kobos said Haas has been “a tireless advocate for US businesses and commercial interests”.
Kobos added: “Peter understands the intersection of geopolitics and markets, and I am confident that his leadership and experience will strengthen our global team and help us deliver energy security for our customers around the world.”
