Belgian shipowner Exmar has waved off its mini floating LNG (FLNG) production unit Tango FLNG as it left China onboard a heavylift vessel.
The 0.5-million tonnes per annum capacity, barge-based LNG floater - which had been undergoing final works at Nantong Cosco Shipyard - is heading to Bahia Blanca in Argentina.
Exmar said the voyage is expected to take around 45 days, which would see the unit arrive in early to mid-February.
It is due to be operational from a quayside location in the second quarter of 2019, the company said.
In November Exmar signed a 10-year tolling agreement with Argentinian energy producer YPF on the FLNG unit.
The deal was the result of a long-fought quest to find employment for the floater after its original charterer went bankrupt in 2016.
YPF plans to use the vessel to kick off the the development of its Vaca Muerta shale gas reserves.
