Japanese engineering company JGC has lined up work to build a small-scale LNG ship-fuel plant in Oman.

It has won a preliminary design order for French oil major Total’s 1m ton per year refinery in the north of the country, according to a report in the Nikkei daily.

The deal is expected to be worth about ¥100bn ($924m).

Small-scale plants can cut costs and are quicker to build.

JGC competitor Chiyoda has also developed a small-scale plant. This again has a capacity of up to 1m tons per year, Bloomberg reported.
