Genco Shipping & Trading has followed up the purchase of a quartet of new ships with the disposal of a pair of older units, shipbrokers say.

New York-listed Genco has been looking to sell 15 older vessels, with the cash expected to fund the purchase of newer tonnage.

Brokers suggest the 30,000-dwt Genco Progress and Genco Explorer (both built 1999) have now been sold.

A price of $5.65m is being placed on each of the Oshime Shipbuilding constructed vessels.

Executives at the shipowner did not respond to requests for comment at the time of writing on Tuesday.

The sales would continue a busy period for the company, which snapped up four ships from Zodiac Maritime in an en bloc deal this summer.

Genco sold a series of ships built in the late 1990s in 2016 and 2017.

However, it still has six ships built before the turn of the century and a handful more launched before the middle of the last decade in its fleet.

Overall, VesselsValue lists the company with 60 bulkers worth a shade over $900m.
