Gener8 Maritime is said to be moving closer to the sale of two aframax tankers as it continues fleet renewal efforts
Sales speculation has surrounded the 106,600-dwt sisters Gener8 Elektra and Gener8 Daphne (both built 2002) since March.
While TradeWinds has previously reported that earlier expectations of the sale were premature, market sources now say a deal for Daphne has been concluded. The sale of Elektra has not been closed however.
A price of $10.5m is being placed on each of the tankers, which brokers say would mark a notch down from the previous transaction in the market.
In January this year Eurotankers of Greece paid $10.7m for the 106,000-dwt Shin El (built 2002).
Gener8 has been actively disposing of mostly older vessels as it welcomes the final ships in what was a vast newbuilding orderbook.
The final ship will soon arrive from Hanjin Subic.
