Jan Limnell has quit Finnish hull and machinery insurer Alandia after nearly 30 years to join Nordic Marine Insurance.

Limnell was a key executive as head of marine and director at fast-expanding Finnish marine underwriter Alandia.

Alandia — one of the largest marine insurers in the Nordic region — has been undergoing a strategy of refocusing on its core marine business.

Limnell is well-known in marine insurance as chairman of the board of the Nordic Association of Marine Insurers and vice chairman of the International Union of Marine Insurance Hull Committee.

Limnell will likely be familiar with Nordic Marine as it was formerly a part of the Alandia group.

West of England P&I Club became a major shareholder in Nordic Marine after it acquired its shareholding from Alandia in 2020.

Strong foundation

Mark Matthews, head of product development at West of England, who is also responsible for Nordic Marine, said: "Nordic has a market-leading reputation among shipowners and charterers for their reliability and quality of its offering and Jan’s appointment will build on this strong foundation, and will add even more experience to Nordic’s dedicated team."

Nordic Marine is headed by managing director Jan Lennhammer.

Limnell will join as deputy managing director and underwriting director of Nordic Marine from May.
