Mike MacColl has moved from his position as global head of marine and war at AXA XL to join Lloyd's of London underwriting outfit Atrium.

MacColl has 35 years of marine insurance underwriting experience, including a previous seven-year spell at Talbot Underwriting.

He will work at Atrium as head of hull and war under David Sankey who leads the marine division.

Sankey said he wanted to work with MacColl to "drive profitable expansion across our marine hull business, whilst also building on Atrium’s leading position in the hull and war market".

In a separate development related to the London marine market, Matthew Burton has been appointed senior vice-president of global business development at Skuld's London office from this month.

Skuld business development officer Gregory Thomas said the appointment was made with an eye on helping the insurer's global growth ambitions.

Well known

In a reshuffle Paul Fry, who is senior vice president of Skuld's London hull underwriting business, will now head up the London office.

Fry is well known in the marine market as chairman of the Joint Hull Committee that represents both Lloyd's and non-Lloyd's London marine underwriters. He also sits on the Ocean Hull Committee of the International Union of Marine Insurance.

Skuld chief executive Stale Hansen said Fry had already made his mark in his five years at the Norwegian insurer's London outpost.

"We have been overwhelmed by the positive impact that he has on the organisation through his leadership," Hansen said.
