David Ripton has quit Marsh to join rival insurance broker Willis Towers Watson, where he has been appointed head of broking for global marine.
Ripton was chief executive of Marine UK since 2014 but his career in marine broking spans 30 years.
At Willis Towers Watson, Ripton will lead the global marine strategy.
Willis Towers Watson’s global marine division is headed by Ben Abraham.
Commenting on Ripton’s appointment Abraham said: “Today’s announcement exemplifies the continued investment we are making in our Global Marine business."
In a rapidly evolving marine market David will be in a unique position to drive innovation and client value within a truly global marine broking structure.”
Ripton leaves Marsh ahead of its proposed takeover of Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT) which was expected to lead to a shakeup of the marine division of the merged company.
Willis Towers Watson also recently announced it has dropped talks to merge with mega insurance broker Aon.
