Thomas Nordberg has made three more staff appointments as he puts his stamp on the Swedish Club after taking over as managing director in January.

Thorbjorn Emanuelsson has come on board at Gothenburg head office as director of underwriting, joining from Gard, where he was vice president of its Hong Kong operation.

Johan Kahlmeter has been named claims director and Magnus Axelsson is the new director of IT and digital transformation.

“I am delighted to welcome these three new appointees to exciting new roles in the club’s management team,” Nordberg said.

“When I joined the club, I was always clear that one of the first steps would be to ensure that the management team has the optimum functionality and the perfect task and responsibility allocation.”

In earlier movements, chief underwriting officer Lars Malm was sent to head the marine insurance mutual’s Hong Kong outpost and underwriting director Tord Nilsson was appointed area manager of Team UK.

“We are placing two of our most experienced people in those strategically significant areas, Hong Kong and London,” Nordberg said.

Meanwhile, Victor Insurance international head of marine Richard Turner — a former International Union of Marine Insurance president — is joining the West of England P&I Club.

Turner started at Victor, part of the Marsh insurance group, in 2020 to help it develop a marine insurance facility.

It looks as though he might have a similar role at the West of England, which this month announced it is launching its own hull and machinery and war risk facility as a diversification from its mainstream mutual protection and indemnity business.

Turner is an experienced underwriter, having spent 36 years at RSA, the last 18 months as chief executive of its new Luxembourg branch following Brexit.
