German BBC Chartering has filed suit against Siemens Wind Energy, looking to recover $1.6m in deadfreight.
In a complaint filed Wednesday in Manhattan federal court, BBC alleges it had a contract signed in late 2016 to carry 513 wind turbine generator blades from Nangang to Corpus Christi, Texas over 22 voyages.
But BBC only completed 14 of the 22 voyages, as Siemens cancelled the last eight.
No reason was given for the cancellation, but the lawsuit alleges Siemens contractually owes deadfright tonnage for 177 blades it did not carry at $15,000 per blade.
Less expenses, the suit says, Siemens owes $1.6m.
Siemens did not immediately return a request for comment.
The lawsuit was filed in New York as the contract stipulates US legal disputes would be handled there.
