Ince & Co is appointing three new partners in Germany after losing four Hamburg office partners to Clyde & Co.

The law firm said Tim Schommer, Eckehard Volz, Volker Lucke and Daniel Jones had given their notice to leave the company for its rival.

Jan Heuvels, Ince & Co’s international senior partner, said: “As part of a leading and well-resourced international law firm, Ince & Co Germany is in a strong position to deal with the increasing mobility of lawyers, which is prevalent within the market.

"Our Hamburg office is blessed with a depth of talent and events such as this provide opportunities to reinvigorate our team and allow our lawyers to develop further in a collegiate environment."

New partners

Gotz Rahne, Christian Reinert and Martin Malinowski will become partners as a result.

“Over the last two years we have successfully restructured our business, including the adoption of a hybrid lockstep remuneration model that rewards our highest performing partners. This will inevitably result in certain partners seeking other opportunities,” Heuvels said.

Rahne is an English-qualified lawyer who has additionally studied German law, specialising in shipping and energy.

Together with shipping and energy lawyer Simon Spark, who is on secondment from London, he will lead Ince & Co’s English law capability in Hamburg.

Reinert is a German-qualified lawyer and a specialist in energy and infrastructure, as well as maritime corporate and finance, focusing on insolvency and compliance.

Malinowski is also German-qualified and works in the yacht sector.

German litigation partner Markus Eichhorst will lead Ince & Co’s litigation practice in Hamburg. His team will continue to work closely with Stefan Segger and Eva-Maria Goergen in Cologne, who lead the firm’s German insurance practice.

Ince & Co has a growing presence in Germany after the launch of Ince Consultancy in Hamburg in 2016 and a new office in Cologne.

From 1 May, it will have a total of 13 partners in Germany and 23 other fee earners.
