Francis Nolan, a maritime lawyer for four decades, is taking the helm at the Maritime Law Association of the United States.

Nolan, a lawyer and shareholder with US international business law firm Vedder Price, was elected president of the organisation today at its spring general meeting in New York City.

“ I’ve been an active member of the MLA for 43 years and have worked closely with its leadership for many years," he said. "I am eager to build upon its momentum."

Nolan has served on the board for several years, most recently as vice president and chairman of the Marine Financing Committee.

A longtime member of the maritime bar, Nolan represents international and domestic stakeholders in the transportation and defense industries.

He replaces former president Hal Watson, partner in US law firm's Chaffe McCall’s Houston office and a member of the firm’s admiralty section.

Founded in 1899, the association has approximately 3,000 members, including maritime lawyers, judges active in admiralty issues, admiralty law professors and stakeholders in the maritime industry.
