A Kentucky marine towing company is suing in New Orleans federal court after a Bulgarian bulker allegedly ran into one of its tugs.
Marquette Transportation Company Gulf-Inland is suing Navigation Maritime Bulgare, also known as Navibulgar for an undisclosed sum after the 3 January crash on the Mississippi River.
There, the 29,800-dwt Strandja (built 2010) allegedly left its berth and headed directly for the tug Kieffer Bailey, which had six barges in tow.
The complaint says the crew of the tug radioed the Strandja, but says the message was not returned.
Further, Marquette had to pay for damage to the barges, salvage fees and other costs related to the crash in addition to injuries to crew members.
Navibulgar did not immediately return requests for comment.
