A cook has been killed in a knife fight on a cargoship off India.

The body of Yemeni national Abdul Hakim Mohsin, 54, was placed into the vessel's deep freeze following the incident, the Times of India reported.

The 7,100-dwt Oasis III (built 1981), the former Yas, previously owned by Galaxy Fleet, left Yemen on 24 February.

It was en route to breakers in Alang and arrived on 7 April.

The incident was reported to Bhavnagar marine police by ship agent Naresh Khuman.

The ship's captain, Mohammad Dayed, said there had been a fight following an argument between Mohsin and seafarer Masel Mohammad Quaid, 41, also from Yemen.

Quaid was locked in his cabin.

The vessel is now owned by Oasis Global Services of Dubai.
