Greek shipowner George Economou has finally made his break into LNG shipping, confirming an order for four newbuildings worth $850 million at Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in South Korea.
The yard said in a regulatory filing that the apparently speculatively ordered 159,800-cbm LNG carriers will be delivered by November 2014.
Economou’s outfit Cardiff Marine also has options to build a further two vessels at the yard.
