Results from a series of LNG fire tests are scheduled to be discussed at the Society of International Gas Tanker & Terminal Operators panel meeting in the US this week.

The entire second half of the first day at the Houston event has been given over to presentations by US government-controlled Sandia National Laboratories.

SNL ran a series of large-scale fire tests over water at a specially built facility at its Albuquerque, New Mexico, headquarters.

The results were used in a study that examined “cascading” or multi-tank failure analysis of LNG carriers where the storage units are breached by so-called “intentional attempts” against a vessel.

Other topics tabled for the Sigtto meeting include shale gas, floating liquefaction, sloshing and the training of shore staff for an LNG shipping company, along with an update on piracy issues.
