A 35-year-old LNG carrier controlled by Golar LNG has moved off for reactivation after spending 22 months in lay-up.
Electronic data show the 126,277-cbm Gimi (built 1976, pictured) due to arrive off the UK’s south coast this week.
The vessel was laid up off Haugesund, Norway, in August 2009 along with its 126,360-cbm sistership Khannur (built 1977).
In a results briefing last month, Golar said it plans to spend $10 million reactivating Gimi in advance of any firm business for the vessel. The company has yet to name the yard that will carry out the work.
Golar said it plans to put the ship through an extensive upgrade programme on the back of strong shipping market fundamentals and increased demand in the floating storage and regasification sector.
It added Gimi will be available for trading and infrastructure projects from August.
The company has indicated the ship could fetch rate offers in the $40,000 to $50,000 per day range.
