Imports of LNG into South Korea rose by nearly 9% in July compared to the same month last year, according to customs service data.

The figures show the country bought 2.5 million tonnes of LNG during the month against 2.07 million tonnes in July 2010.

But prices rose. The country paid the equivalent of $694.7 a tonne for its LNG during the month, compared with $547.41 a tonne a year earlier.

South Korea bought 108,058 tonnes of LNG on the spot market in July.
