German multipurpose (MPP) player dship Carriers is expanding its fleet to 20 vessels with the addition of two units taken on long-term charter.

The Hamburg-based company will take delivery of this month of the 4,200-dwt MPP heavylift vessel Eemslift Daphne and Eemslift Nadine (both built 2014).

The vessels join the carrier after operating in the fleet of Dutch company Amasus Shipping.

The shallow-draught vessels will be the fastest in the German operator's fleet.

They are certified for open-hatch sailing and are equipped with two cranes with a combined lifting capacity up to 300 metric tonnes.

Larger projects

dship, which is part of Switzerland’s deugro group, has recently been handling a number of large project cargoes.

The latest project involved a tidal turbine shipped from the UK to Japan earlier this month.

Several components weighing 1,714 metric tonnes in total were shipped from Nigg in Scotland to Nagasaki in Japan.

The tidal turbine, main foundation and the ballast blocks were loaded under deck of the 12,537-dwt MPP heavylift vessel Josef (built 2011), which is equipped with cranes with a combined capacity up to 360 metric tonnes.

The shipment was carried out in conjunction with Global Renewable Shipbrokers of Hamburg on behalf of sustainable energy company Simec Atlantis Energy.

“Developing the technical proposal as well as negotiating the commercial terms all happened on a level playing field and we developed a true sense of partnership and trust between the client, the broker and us,” dship chartering manager Jonas Schwebe said.
