Offshore charterers have seen rates for North Sea anchor-handlers leap this week as tonnage runs short.

Demand has been steady, with 10 ships fixed already since the end of June.

Dof's 260-bp Skandi Hera (built 2009) has topped the list at £20,000 ($25,800) per day from ConocoPhillips for the Ensco 120 rig move. This is up from £12,000 last week.

Only one of 13 ships was free in Norway on Wednesday, and two were open in the UK from a fleet of 25.

A total of 35 other anchor-handlers remain in layup.

Broker Westshore said: "The market has tightened since last week as a result of increased activity added to a handful of vessels leaving to carry out summer project work."

It added that Wintershall was looking to fix three or four ships on Wednesday for work on the Deepsea Stavanger.

Utilisation stands at 85%.
