Bibby Offshore inked a contract with ConocoPhillips that will put an offshore construction vessel to work in the North Sea.

The deal involves maintenance activities on the Norpipe Oil pipeline, which runs between the Ekofisk production area south of Norway and the Teesside facility in United Kingdom.

The contract is due for completion in the third quarter and will utilise the Aberdeen offshore vessel owner's 7,000-dwt Olympic Ares (built 2013) to support ConocoPhillips on integrity management of the pipeline.

Bibby Offshore managing director Arne Lier said: "We are delighted to have secured our first Norwegian contract with a leading E&P company such as ConocoPhillips."

The Howard Woodcock-led company recently reported stronger profit and sales growth, thanks to additional vessels and higher utilisation. But it also warned that oil prices were creating more challenging market conditions this year.
